Check the domain availabilty of your name mashes

Besides being a great name generator for couples, namemasher is also a great way of brainstorming and coming up with a company name or website.  Say your new site is a cross between twitter and linkedin or youtube and flickr.  You can mash them up, view your name mashes, and can now easily check to see which names are available as domain names.  Just click the "Check domain availability of these names" link to be taken to dotster.com.  They will display the domain names and list which are taken and which are available.  Happy hunting!

If you'd like to link to namemasher with two names pre-filled and mashed up, you can add them to the query string as follows:

(or course substitute your own names for pug and beagle)

f = the first name/word to use.
s = the second name/word to use.

Welcome to namemasher!

namemasher is THE ultimate name generator. I wanted to create a name generator that could take two names or words and mash them up to create new mashed up names/words. A Google search for a tool that could take "Ben" and "Jennfier" and spit out "Bennifer" or "Brad" and "Angelina" to create "Brangelina", came up short. So I had to create one myself.

My goals with this name generator:
  • It had to be able to create "Bennifer", "Brangelina", and "TomKat" as those were the baseline tests
  • It had to intelligently generate every combination of mashed up names, not just one name
  • It had to be intelligent enough to detect "bad" names vs "good" names
  • It had to be fun and easy to use
namemasher is not just a tool for creating these celebrity uni-names, as they're sometimes called. It can also be used to create new portmanteau words. A portmanteau is a combination of two words, such as picture+dictionary to create "pictionary".

So try it out and let me know what you think. And have fun!
